About Us:

At SML Adele's Legacy, we are dedicated to making a difference in our community by providing free yarn remnants to local charities and individuals, who in turn knit or crochet items for local area elementary school students and  other charity projects.

Our volunteers, affectionately called the Holy Yarn Rollers, work tirelessly to hank, roll, store, and distribute yarn to volunteer yarn crafters. These talented volunteers turn the yarn into sweaters, hats, scarves, lap robes, dolls and other items in order to donate to others locally and globally. Join us in our mission to spread warmth and comfort through the art of knitting and crochet.
Each year, our major focus is taking our hand-crafted sweaters, hats and scarves to an elementary school in either Bedford County or Franklin County, Virginia. Every student chooses a hat, sweater and scarf. (Teachers choose for students who are absent.) Each staff member chooses a hat to keep!
That is HUNDREDS of hand-crafted hats, sweaters and scarves collected each year!! Hundreds of acrylic - machine washable - items to keep kids cozy! Since 2012, Adele's Legacy has donated approximately 3,250 sweaters and scarves and approximately 4,000 hats to school children in Franklin County and Bedford County, Virginia. Please contact us if you would like to participate in keeping kids cozy.
Many meet at Trinity Ecumenical Parish in Moneta twice a month to roll yards and yards (and yards) of donated yarn into hundreds of usable yarn balls. Then, knitters and crocheters create thousands of hats, sweaters, scarves, lap robes, baby items, and dolls.
Our volunteers work with amazing organizations. These include other charity groups, local businesses, local shelters, hospitals, schools, and community centers. We are proud to support their missions and contribute to their efforts.
Won't you join us?
